Adobe Illustrator or InDesign.

What color separation should I use?

CMYK color.

What image resolution should I use?

300ppi.

How do I organize my files?

Make sure each group of components, such as die-lines, font, images, texture, and backdrop, has its own layer. You’ll find it easier to make changes, especially if you wish to make items transparent. Using layers can help you save money on future design fees if you need to make changes. Finally, remember to lock each completed layer and refrain from using the sublayer for special effects.

How do I show foil, emboss or spot UV?

This type should be outlined.

Should I put special finishes components on a separate layer?

Yes, we propose that you design special finishes and tooling like foils, coatings, varnishes, emboss, and deboss as their own layer with their own spot color and label the layer with the name of the finish you want.

Any type that will foil, emboss, or spot UV should be outlined, and the colors should be set to “overprint” rather than “multiply.”

How do I submit my files?

Making a “package” from InDesign or Illustrator is the most efficient way to transfer files. From typefaces to links to a press-ready PDF, this will collect everything we need to produce your job. It’s best if you send it in.zip format.

What is the correct page layout and bleeds?

We recommend that you include a minimum of 0.125″ bleed on all trim edges in your layout papers.

Die lines should be drawn with a one-point rule, designated as spot color, and placed on a separate document layer.

Remember to use dotted lines to show folds and solid lines to show cuts.

The ideal method of submitting a print-ready document is through high-resolution PDFs. It is critical, however, that the PDF file be prepared for commercial printing. To assist you in creating your PDFs, we can give you with a preset file.
